State Road Elementary School Receives $1500 Community Arts Grant from Arts & Cultural Council to Create Radio Show

Rochester, NY June 7, 2002- State Road Elementary School's 5th Grade music students received a $1500 Community Arts Grant from the Arts & Cultural Council of Greater Rochester to create a Radio Show with resident artists Bart Dentino & Kevin Huber.

Approximately 80 Fifth Grade students created a Musical Radio Show based on specific music content and music samples that they researched. The resident artists, Bart & Kevin presented a sample of their own radio show (2/25-2/28) "Bart & Kevin's Radio World" and as a class, the students learned about the medium of Radio in the field of communications and how it relates to music.

With the help of resident artists Bart Dentino and Kevin Huber, students choose the format for their segment, wrote an information (3/15-3/20) and/or entertainment segment and practiced it (3/27-4/8). They recorded it (4/8 & 4/12) with Bart & Kevin's portable recording studio. Some of the segments are: a Folk music Infomercial starring Woody Guthrie & Pete Seeger, a live report from Disney World about Disney musicals starring the dog "Beaner", an interview with the famous "Opera Hunter", a Library segment on some cool book & websites on Reggae music and many more!

The Webster High School will be playing the CD on their Radio station as well as the Webster Cable TV who will use the audio portion along with a powerpoint of some pictures I took of the kids working with Bart & Kevin. The final CD runs approximately 35 minutes with each of the nine segments being approximately 3 minutes in length.
