Arts Council Announces Availability of
Culture Builds Communities Grants for 2000
The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester announces the availability of $50,000 in grants for its Culture Builds Communities Program. Funds are made available by Citigroup Foundation and the City of Rochester.
Neighborhood associations in the city of Rochester may apply for up to $20,000 to support projects to take place during 2000. Funding is primarily intended to support artists' fees.
The application deadline is January 14, 2000.
The objective of the program is to support neighborhood pride through participatory projects that involve artists and/or cultural organizations and that result in the creation of a lasting work of art that celebrates the neighborhood. Special emphasis will be given this year to projects of a more permanent nature, which have long-term visibility and accessibility to the community.
Previously funded projects include the Gateway at the corner of Goodman Street and Webster Avenue in Northeast Rochester, and a mural at the James Madison School of Excellence in the Southwest quadrant.
For complete guidelines and an application form, contact the Arts Council at 473-4000. The Arts Council is located at 277 North Goodman Street, Rochester, NY 14607.
