Arts Council Celebrity Teapot Auction: Sunday, November 7, 1999

The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester is sponsoring a Celebrity Teapot Auction at the Gleason Auditorium, Rochester Public Library, on Sunday, November 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. Proceeds from the auction will benefit ArtWorks, the Arts Council's youth employment program.

Carol Ritter, Democrat and Chronicle columnist, who decorated one of the teapots, will serve as Auctioneer. The Auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. Teapots may be viewed prior to November 7 in the Periodical Reading Room at the Rochester Pubic Library. They may also be viewed prior to the Auction from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Twenty-eight local celebrities from Rochester's educational, business, cultural, athletic, media and government spheres gave their time to decorate teapots at a local "paint your own pottery" business, Bisque & Brush.

Through ArtWorks, apprentice artists increase their appreciation for process, develop effective work habits, and develop expressive skills. In the summer of 1999, 50 apprentices were employed at minimum wage to make art under the direction of professional artists.
