SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY STIPENDS
RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED
The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester announces 21 recipients of Special Opportunity Stipends (S.O.S.) for the Genesee Valley/Finger Lakes Region. Artists will use their stipends to take advantage of career-building opportunities that take place between July 1 and October 31, 1999.
On June 15 at a public meeting in Batavia, NY, the S.O.S. advisory panel determined the recipients for the stipends. Panelists included: Penelope Dannenberg, Director of Artists Programs, New York Foundation for the Arts; Kelly Kiebala, Program Director, Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council, film, video, and photography; Sue Knapp, Arts Council for Wyoming County, visual arts/textiles/ceramics; Betty Garcia Mathewson, Multicultural Coalition of Orleans County, music presenter; John Contino, Wayne County, visual arts/photography; James Willey, Livingston County, music; and Frances Hare, Monroe County, dance and visual arts.
Twenty-one visual, performing and literary artists will receive a total of $5,000 in funding. The Special Opportunity Stipend program is funded by New York State Council on the Arts through the New York Foundation for the Arts. The program is administered by the Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester in association with area arts councils.
