Deadline Extended for Annual Arts Awards Commission

The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester will commission a local artist to create an award for the 2001 honorees of the Arts Council's Annual Arts Awards. The Arts Council annually recognizes outstanding contributions in the arts. This year the categories are: Business/Foundation, Cultural Organization, Individual, Literary Artist, Media Artist, Performing Artist and Visual Artist.

Artists in all media and disciplines are invited to submit proposals to produce an award. The selected work could be a poem, musical composition, or work of visual art. Selection of a design will be made by jury. No restrictions are placed on theme or personal expression. Artists' proposals must now be received at the Arts Council by 4:30 p.m., Friday, August 31st, 2001. Expenses and fees may not exceed $1,500.

In 2000, Cheryl Louise Olney created individual wooden plaques saluting the arts, and in 1999, the Arts Council commissioned metalsmith Tom Markusen of Kendall, NY to create five metal wall reliefs.
