Arts & Cultural Council Presents Workshop:
Fact and Fantasy - A Look at the Peer Rreview Process for
Lessons on Perspective

The Arts in Education Roundtable of the Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester presents Fact and Fantasy - A Look at the Peer Review Process for Lessons on Perspective, Wednesday, September 20th, 2000 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in Activity Room C at Strong Museum, One Manhattan Square. The program is free and open to all those interested in the arts and education.
Facilitator Jeanne Gray, Consultant for Statewide Peer Review, will present an overview of peer review and its relationship to the State Education process to raise standards and how the standards can be incorporated in lesson plans. "The peer review process is very fulfilling for the teacher," says Gray. "It offers teachers the chance to talk with other teachers about education and the impact on student learning."
Presenter Cynthia Dankert describes the workshop shop as a sharing with the group of a learning experience she has designed titled "Fact and Fantasy." "With carefully monitored time limits, there will be a presentation of the learning experience, quiet time to read the learning experience, warm and cool comments from participants, teacher response and full group conversation and summary," says Dankert. The workshop includes audience participation and rubrics.
The presenters hope to encourage more teachers from the Rochester area to participate in the annual State wide Peer Review Session, usually held in March in the Albany area.
Cynthia Dankert has 25 years experience as an art teacher at Fairport High School, specializing in Photography and Advertising Design. She participated in three statewide peer review sessions and had three learning experiences accepted by the New York State Academy of Teaching and Learning (one of which will be included on the NYSATL website). As a result of these accomplishments, Dankert was awarded membership in the New York State Academy of Teaching and Learning.
The Arts in Education Roundtable is a consortia of arts organizations, artists, teachers, education administrators, parents, and others interested in making the arts basic to education. The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester sponsors the Roundtable.
