Winter 2009 cover art: Woman in Traditional Garb, a painting in watercolor and acrylic by Murtaza Pardais, formerly a professor of fine arts at Kabul University in Afghanistan who is now living and working in Rochester. He moved to the United States in 2000 after his career was interrupted by Afghanistan’s war with Russia, living first with his family in Chicago and Cleveland before coming to Rochester in 2001 to join his sister and her family. His work has been featured nationally in a poster for UNICEF and locally in the 35th anniversary Corn Hill Festival poster. According to Mr. Pardais, his art is the expression of his dreams for peace.
